Morning campers

It's been a while since we've updated, we've been very very busy. We are full every weekend at the moment even though it has not been glorious weather our campers are hardy and happy on the whole. We've met so many lovely people, such a diverse lot. So far we reckon our first season is going pretty well and we are both enjoying having the site. I think the highlights have been the brilliant produce from the blackshawhead food network, fruit, veg, pies even cheese at one point. The weekend we had bell tents with bunting, kids in fancy dress, sunshine and happy campers. My son and his friend caught trout in the local river, picking bilberries and meeting lots of new people all the reasons for starting a campsite in the first place. Baby number two wanting attention so am signing off, will try a bit more frequency with the old blog. Bye for now.

Phone sorted, getting busy with the strimmer.

Phone sorted now, turns out I was over enthusiastic with the new grass cutting things and actually cut the phone line, whoops.... Have now got a new line for the strimmer that was kindly donated by Alison, had a go with it tonight not a good idea in sandals, but very very effective of nettles and other annoying weeds. Had a really lovely group up camping and walking last night, they were doing a charity walk and seemed really up for it and jolly. Had a rather interesting tale from two campers a few weeks ago who actually followed the sat nav up the bridle way.... I actually can't believe they made it in their little corsa. Anyway, we are going to get handy with some more signs and recommend no body tries it again. Sophie has really enjoyed herself with the laminator so any excuse to laminate a bit more. I walk round the site trying to spot the new laminated signs, oh my days are so rewarding... :)

Phone troubles

I have by accident cut the phone line to the caravan on site so we have no phone line, people can contact us on 01422 844334 or 01422 844417. Very stupid on my behalf... Will try and fix it first thing in the mOrning.

Back from jollies

Well I've just returned from holiday leaving Sophie and my mum to man the site and what a great job they did, it was so nice coming over the hill to the site to see the field busy with campers. The new sign had gone up and Sophie was busily planting pretty flowers in the wall, felt great to be back. Had a good chat with b n max at the pub about making some grassy spaces for camper van awnings just off the hard standing and also making it possible for vans to drive on and off the hardstanding. Love coming up with new things to do to the site, me and Sophie are going out for a night of planning for new loos and showers. The handmade parade is in hebden bridge on Saturday so we are expecting a good number of families camping this weekend although we still have space.

Getting the noticeboard ready

We are just about ready with our new noticeboard for outside the caravan it has been a team effort, Barney reconstructed some old shelves donated from our friend maddie (now in Uganda) and Sophie has given them a few coats of paint. We are going to have as much useful info in it as we can fit, bus times, local activities, things for sale, campsite shop opening times, any other ideas welcome.it's the blues festival in hebden bridge this weekend so we are preparing ourselves for a busy one, the fox and goose pub in hebden has a beer fest on too, so good times I think. Hope the weather is kind for hopefully another great bank holiday:)

Bank Holiday Busy Busy

Well the bank holiday bonanza is nearly over and we've had a great weekend lots of lovely campers, friends and family bussling around. Me and Sophie are both going to sleep well tonight:) I took a stroll to land farm which is just a 20 minute walk from the site it has lovely scultpures and sheltered little spaces next to a stream with a beautiful view of fields and lambs, we had a cup of tea and home made scones, Barney even had a little nap next to the water. Amazingly secluded spot away from the wind which has been howling for a couple of days. I would recommend having a little mossie to the farm for a relaxing brew.I feel rechargeed and ready for more campsite fun and frolicks..

The bunny came to blackshaw.

The Easter bunny came along to a sunny blackshaw head on Easter Sunday, lots of egg hunters and prize winners. A good day was had by all.we've been very busy on site even in the week we've had plenty of visitors. This weekend has been great weather again, I worked in the pub last night and there was a really nice vibe and mix of campers and locals. Served a few pints of local bitter and hired out some fire pits. It looked lively on site when I came out at about half 11 the stars were twinkling, a few fires burning just how I imagined it would look when we started this whole idea.

Open Day

The Open Day was a real success due to all our friends, family and visitors (oh and the weather) we had a bit of a scare in the morning as it was blowing a gale and raining, actually blew the marquee down. So we had to reposition the band and some of the food into the pub, everyone was very accomodating. But at about 12pm the sun came out and the people starteed arriving, didnt really get going till about half one. Me and Sophie ended up in the caravan for nearly the whole time making a lot of cups of tea... but when we stuck our heads out there was all sorts of fun going on, face painting, card making, games on the grass, music and a very jolly vibe. We couldnt of been happier with the turn out and made £110 for the Blackshaw Head playgroup fund, partly through the raffle and the wishing tree (sophies mum dressed as a wizard) All in all a great day. Getting ready for our Easter egg hunt on the 24th April at 12pm, watch this space for more information.

blog followers

Its very nice that we have some followers of the blog, at least now i don't feel like i'm talking to myself (Although i do occasionally find myself muttering on my own in a corner more and more these days). Went and did Ikea yesterday to get things for the shower room, now I need to convince Barney that tiling the floor in there is what he wants to do on saturday:) I'm off up to the site now to do more hedging, i'm finding it a rather relaxing thing to do, maybe we can offer it to city folk as a rustic workshop?? hum

Getting close to launch day

The team have been getting their hands dirty, mole hills have been flattened, phone line is in so not long till the site has wireless internet. There still seems to be a lot on our to-do list but have now decided that we will do as much as poss for the open day and not get too worried as this is meant to be fun:) My mum started a really good little hedge with willow and hazel branches so hopefully they will withstand the weather. The open day is getting quite a lot of interest from people wanting to help, lots of offers of buns, scones and other yummies, free cider tasting and apple tree grafting. friends doing face painting and we have another band that want to play ( my dad is in it). Sophies mums has made some cushions for the caravan/shop/office which will soon be looking quite cosy once we get the water butt and tools out of it....

Got some lovely posters for the open day done by our friend Howard so i'll be picking them up today and sticking them everywhere.
